My areas of expertise include:
Problem-solving when a student is not making the expected amount of progress with existing visual supports
Ongoing advising for school staff regarding implementation of comprehensive visual supports for individuals with autism, in both school and vocational settings
Training school staff in assessment of students’ levels of symbolic understanding
Using straightforward language to describe current technical research findings relevant to your district, program, classroom, and/or student population
Designing classroom visual supports for learners with varying degrees of symbolic understanding in order to enhance language comprehension, language expression, social pragmatic skills, academic skills, and the understanding of behavioral expectations
Providing training and ongoing advising in communication goal-writing and data collection for school-based SLPs and special education teachers
I’m Dr. Anna Allen, a pediatric speech-language pathologist specializing in autism and other developmental differences in children and teenagers. I have years of experience advising school districts on the creation and maintenance of classroom visual supports for language and academic skill development, as well as integrating AAC use into building language and academic skills in sub-separate classrooms.
I offer one-time as well as ongoing consultations throughout Massachusetts via Zoom, with the possibility of site visits in the greater Boston area. Consultations for professionals and schools are flexible, and tailored to your particular goals and scope.
